Three New Models Introduced
Amazon has revamped its Kindle Scribe lineup with three new models, including its first-ever color version. The entry-level device comes with a monochrome display and no front light, while the mid-tier option features a black-and-white screen with LED front lights. The flagship model, Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, introduces a vivid color display designed for both reading and writing.
All models feature a redesigned 11-inch glare-free screen, slimmer bezels, and lighter construction at 400 grams. At 5.4mm thick, the new Scribes rival the sleekest tablets on the market. Amazon says it achieved this by folding electronics behind the display and using integrated touch input, eliminating extra layers for better responsiveness.
Improved Stylus and Faster Performance
The updated stylus has been refined with a thicker, more ergonomic design, a rubberized eraser top, and stronger magnets to prevent it from falling off the tablet. Writing latency has been reduced to under 12 milliseconds on the monochrome models and about 14 milliseconds on the Colorsoft, creating a smoother, more natural writing experience.
Powered by a new custom chip and increased memory, the Scribe now delivers 40% faster performance, especially noticeable when turning pages or taking notes. Amazon also adopted its Paperwhite’s oxide display technology to enhance clarity and responsiveness.
Kindle Scribe Colorsoft Brings Vivid Shades
The standout of the lineup, Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, renders colors with greater saturation and distinction than rivals like the reMarkable Paper Pro. With clearer shades and a glossy graphic-novel look, it offers a more engaging reading and note-taking experience. The device itself comes in a “fig” color finish, complementing its autumnal screen hues.
Despite the addition of color, the Colorsoft remains the same size and weight as the monochrome models. Its slight trade-off is a modestly higher latency, though Amazon emphasizes its new rendering engine ensures fast, fluid writing and enhanced color performance.
Software Upgrades and AI Integration
Alongside the new hardware, Amazon has introduced a redesigned home page with better organization and quick note access. An AI-powered search bar now scans and indexes handwritten notes, grouping related topics and generating summaries. This allows users to easily retrieve information, like tasks or recurring themes across notebooks.
The Scribe also gains integrations with Google Drive, OneDrive, and OneNote, offering easier file transfers and note exports. A “Send to Alexa+” feature, arriving next year, will let users sync notes directly with Amazon’s assistant for reminders and task management. The Notebooks tab has been replaced with a “Workspace” section, simplifying document organization.
Pricing and Availability
The new Kindle Scribe lineup will be released later this year. Pricing starts at $429 for the entry-level model, $499 for the LED-front-lit version, and $629 for the Scribe Colorsoft. Existing Kindle devices will also receive the redesigned home page through a software update.
