Early leaks point to a new primary sensor

The first details about Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series are beginning to surface, and while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to deliver only modest camera changes, the Galaxy S27 Ultra appears positioned for a more significant leap forward.

According to early leaks, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a new 200-megapixel primary camera built around the ISOCELL HP6 sensor. The sensor reportedly uses a 1/1.3-inch optical format, similar in size to the current flagship sensor, but with updated internal technologies designed to improve image processing, low-light performance, and video quality.

Broader camera system improvements expected

Beyond the main camera, Samsung is also said to be planning upgrades to the ultrawide lens. Industry watchers note that this would be a long-overdue improvement, particularly as competing flagship devices have made significant gains in ultrawide image quality.

Attention is also turning to the mid-range telephoto camera. Current models rely on a relatively modest 3x optical zoom sensor, and expectations are growing that Samsung could move to a much higher-resolution option, potentially in the 50MP range or beyond, to enhance detail and flexibility.

Video, biometrics, and design changes

Additional rumored enhancements include support for 8K video recording at 60 frames per second, a larger sensor for the 5x optical zoom camera, and a redesigned front-facing camera that could adopt a square sensor format.

On the biometric front, Samsung may introduce advanced 3D facial recognition using new optical scanning technology, offering an alternative or complement to fingerprint authentication. There is also speculation that the company could begin phasing out the built-in S Pen, starting with the Galaxy S27 Ultra, marking a notable shift in the Ultra lineup’s identity.

A more substantial generational upgrade

While these details remain early and subject to change, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is shaping up to be a more transformative update than its immediate predecessor. If the reported camera and hardware changes materialize, Samsung’s next flagship could focus heavily on imaging, video creation, and next-generation biometric security.
