Dev and Beta Channels Receive New 25H2-Based Update

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7271 (KB5070307) to both the Dev and Beta Channels, continuing the unified release track based on version 25H2. With both channels aligned, Dev Channel users temporarily have the opportunity to switch to Beta before the Dev Channel moves ahead to higher, potentially less stable build numbers.

Microsoft reminds testers that once Dev advances beyond 25H2, switching will no longer be possible. Testers are encouraged to evaluate their preferred channel while the window remains open.

Xbox Full Screen Experience Expands to PC

The Xbox full screen experience, designed for controller-first navigation, is now available to more Windows 11 PCs. Previously limited to handhelds, this interface brings console-style task switching and a simplified gaming view to desktops, laptops, and tablets.

Users can activate the experience through Task View, Game Bar settings, or the Win + F11 shortcut. The rollout begins with Xbox Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels, with broader availability planned.

New Features Rolling Out Gradually

Point-in-Time Restore

Windows now includes a point-in-time restore option for swift recovery when issues occur. The feature allows users to revert their system, apps, settings, and files to a previous state, reducing downtime during outages or system failures.

Fluid Dictation for Voice Typing

Fluid dictation is expanding to voice typing on NPU-powered devices. The feature improves natural speech transcription by automatically correcting grammar, punctuation, and filler words in real time using on-device small language models for fast and private processing.

Enhanced Phone-to-PC Continuity

More Android devices now support seamless resumption of activities on Windows. Users of vivo phones can continue browsing sessions, while multiple Android brands can now resume online Microsoft 365 Copilot files directly on their PC.

File Explorer and Store Improvements

Microsoft is testing reorganized context menus that group actions more efficiently. New refinements include a consolidated “Manage file” flyout, reorganized cloud provider options, and repositioned commands like “Open Folder Location.”

File Explorer may also preload in the background to shorten launch times, with an option available to disable the feature in Folder Options.

The Microsoft Store now supports uninstalling Store-managed apps directly from the library page, addressing a frequent user request.

Fixes Rolling Out With the Update

The build includes taskbar stability fixes, networking reliability improvements, and corrections for File Explorer behaviors such as lingering Recycle Bin commands. Visual Studio and .NET Framework crashes on ARM64 machines have also been resolved with the latest framework update.

Known Issues to Be Aware Of

  • Start menu may not open for some users via click.
  • Some apps may behave inconsistently in the Xbox full screen experience.
  • File Explorer may show white flashes when navigating pages.
  • Bluetooth device battery levels may not appear for certain testers.

Microsoft reiterates that Insiders may see features that change, disappear, or never reach general release as testing continues. Many updates remain behind controlled rollouts, with broader access tied to the “Get the latest updates” toggle in Windows Update.
