A tiny wearable built for capturing thoughts instantly

Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky has unveiled the Pebble Index 01, a minimalist $75 smart ring designed for fast, reliable voice capture. Worn on the index finger, the device contains only a microphone and a single button. It resembles a tightly cinched cable tie and is meant to function as “external memory for your brain,” offering a frictionless way to record ideas, reminders, or tasks throughout the day.

A long press activates the mic, and recordings automatically sync to the Pebble app on iOS and Android via Bluetooth. The ring stores up to five minutes of local audio and includes an onboard transcription model, allowing it to function even without an internet connection. Migicovsky says the battery should last for years because the device is only used in brief bursts.

Designed for natural, hands-free productivity

The Index is aimed at quick captures: voice notes, reminders, timers, and task creation. The Pebble app can route these recordings intelligently. Migicovsky sends all his notes directly to Notion, while reminders trigger notifications on both phone and Pebble watch. On Android, the ring can even set alarms within the system Clock app.

Pebble’s upcoming watches — including the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2 — also support voice input. But Migicovsky insists the ring remains essential: it works fast, requires only two fingers, and doesn’t demand pulling out a phone or raising a wrist.

Not an AI assistant — but AI-ready

Although the Index can integrate with AI tools in the future, Migicovsky says its core purpose is simplicity. He imagines features like double-clicking the ring to send a recording straight to ChatGPT, and plans to support the Model Context Protocol so the Pebble app can interact with a wide range of services. Still, he stresses the ring is not meant to be a conversational assistant. It’s built to excel at one thing: instant memory capture.

What sets the Index apart from similar AI-driven smart rings is its open-source foundation. Hardware, firmware, and software will all be available for developers to modify. Users will be able to customize input systems, expand capabilities, or adapt the technology into entirely new devices.

Pricing, availability, and how Migicovsky uses it

The Index 01 is available for preorder for $75, with the price rising to $99 after shipments begin in March 2026. It comes in multiple sizes and three colors. Migicovsky says he uses his ring approximately 20 times a day and believes others will adopt similar habits once the tool becomes second nature.

By keeping the experience effortless and dependable, Pebble hopes to make speaking into a smart ring feel as natural as jotting down a quick note — only faster.
